Locked Down in Duffys Forest
If you have to be locked down in any Local Government Area in Sydney, the Northern Beaches LGA is the place to be.
Technically I’m allowed to exercise any where from Palm Beach to Manly, but I’ve opted to stay local, taking walks close to home. And home for these some weeks of lockdown has been Duffys Forest.
There are so many beautiful bush walks and less than ordinary ‘suburban’ walks here that I see something new every time i step out on my daily walk. The trails are quiet (unlike other parts of Sydney), and some days I see more horses that people.
If you’ve never heard of Duffys Forest, and many people haven’t, it’s a small semi-rural suburb tucked away behind Terrey Hills, but only a short drive to Mona Vale and Narrabeen beaches. It sits on the edge of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and is the gateway to many beautiful walks and riding trails. Two of my favourites are The Duffys Wharf Track and The Long Trail.
When this whole thing is over and we can all get out exploring further afield, I’d recommend you visit Duffys. It feels like you’re in the country yet it’s only thirty minutes to the city. There’s a lot of wildlife in the area and many horses too. They really do outnumber the humans here but they can get a little spooked, so drive carefully.
Until then, here is a taste of what you might find as you wander the streets of Duffys Forest.
Where are you spending lockdown? Have you discovered any great walks or places in your local area that we can feature here in the future? Let me know in the comments section below.
